Stanley E. "Stan" Smith, 81, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday August 8, 2015 at St. Anthony's Continuing Care, Rock Island.
A service celebrating Stan's life will be held 7pm Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 5pm to service time. Private inurnment will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, with Military Honors by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be left to Disabled American Veterans.
Stanley was born on September 3, 1933 in Miles, IA., the son of Herbert and Gertrude Smith. He graduated from Rock island High School in 1951.
Mr. Smith joined the United States Air Force in 1953 where he served as a radar technician. While serving in the Air Force, Stan found the love of his life Linda Jacobs, they were united in marriage on February 22, 1956.
Stanley retired from Alcoa on April 29, 1994 after working on the hotline for 30 years.
Stan was a life long St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed riding his bike and fishing with his son, Richard. He also enjoyed coffee with his buddies he met at the Rock Island Hyvee and Hardees.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; sons, Richard and David Smith; daughter, Brenda (Tom) Neer, all of Rock Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.
Dad you are finally at peace and in no more pain in the arms of our Lord.
