Stephen D. Conwell, 69, of Rock Island, passed away Monday May 15, 2017 in Rock Island.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial, with military honors conducted by Vietnam Veterans of America, Quad Cities Chapter 299, will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. No visitation is planned. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island, assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Stephen was born July 14, 1947 in Davenport, IA, a son of John and Eleanor Hutton Conwell. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam war. He graduated from St. Ambrose University, Davenport, where he received his master's degree.
He married Jeanette "Jean" M. Clark on June 11, 1988 in Rock Island, IL. She preceded him in death on December 13, 2014.
Stephen retired from the Rock Island Arsenal following 17 years of service.
He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. He enjoyed reading and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving are his brothers, James Conwell, Rock Island, and Paul Conwell, and his wife Alice, Rock Island; sister, Diane Guyer, and her husband Larry, Durant, IA; several nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Michael Conwell.
