Steven M. "Chief" Anderson, 56, of Rock Island, died Friday, May 16, 2014 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Cremation rites were accorded. A Celebration of Chief's life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 24 at the Milan American Legion, 515 1st Ave W, Milan, IL 61264.Memorials may be made in care of the family.Chief was born in Rock Island on May 19, 1957, a son of James and Joy Proksch Anderson. He married Geri Gottman on May 20, 1978.

Chief worked as a Delivery Driver for the Rock Island School District #41 Maintenance Department. He retired in 2012 after 20 years of service.

Chief was a loving caretaker and provider for his wife, Geri, and a friend to all. He was an outdoorsman who loved camping, hiking, morel mushroom hunting, 4-wheeling and windshield time on his Harley. Steven was a past member of the Rock Island Conservation Club and the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Geri; father, James Anderson, Milan; sister, Tammy (Jon) Johnson, Lynn Center; brother, Tim Anderson, Milan and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joy.
