Steve Banfield, 65, of Moline, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016 surrounded by love at his home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 23 at 1 PM. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, 3030 7th Ave, Rock Island. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in care of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Steve was born on January 2, 1951 in Rock Island, son of Ervin and Elaine Banfield. He married his wife, Kay on June 20, 1980 in Moline. Steve was employed by John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline for 38 years, retiring in 2011.
Steve and Kay enjoyed entertaining family and friends, welcoming people into their home and making memories together. Steve was also a great cook and enjoyed seeing the happiness he created by those he shared his creative concoctions with. Come rain or shine, you could always find Steve on the Moline riverfront where he enjoyed his daily walks. He also enjoyed his monthly poker nights with his high school buddies. Steve adored his family, especially his grandchildren – Alexis and Will, and savored all of the time spent with his family and friends.
Steve was a warrior who battled the odds and always lived his life to the fullest. His quick wit accompanied by his caring and compassionate personality drew others to him to be a part of the fun and always positive vibe.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kay; son Matt (Jennifer) Hallgren, grandchildren, Alexis and Will Hallgren, Chicago; brothers, Rick (Kim) Banfield, Colona, Craig Cox(Laura Ferkel), Milan; sisters; Myra Lage, East Moline and Myrna Banfield (Jim Anderson), Lynn Center, and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rollie Cox; and brother-in-law, David Lage.
