Steven Jerrell "Gabe" Gabriel, 68, of Rock Island, passed away Thursday February 9, 2023 at his home, surround by his family and friends.

Services will be 12:00 Saturday February 18, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 10:00am to service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the family.

Steve was born on August 16, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Edward and Delores Posey. He was oldest of ten siblings.  He married Carolyn Dunbar.

Mr. Gabriel was employed as a mental health technician at the former Franciscan Hospital and later as a painter.

Gabe loved watching sports, grilling, gardening, sitting on the front porch listening to music and just having a good time with family and friends. He was always the life of the party and to know him was to love him. Steve was very well known and respected in the community. He was always laid back, easy going and could always make everyone laugh. You could not be around Steve and not have a good time, and for that he will truly be missed.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Dunbar-Gabriel; two sons, Jason Jerrell White, St. Louis, Missouri, Tremaine J. Gabriel, Rock Island; several grandchildren; siblings, Lue Grante Baker, Kevin Gabriel, Rock Island, Ernest (Solange) Posey, Chicago, Edwin (Regina) Posey, Chicago, David Posey, Chicago, Beatrice (Doreen) Posey, Chicago, Joseph (Tara) Posey, Chicago, Pamela Posey, Chicago; special cousin who was like a sister, Thalia Stennis, Chicago; 3 step daughters, Dana Dunbar, Shonda Dunbar, Samantha Dunbar all of Rock Island; a host of nieces nephews and cousins, including four special nephews, Tyland (Ty) Beason, Robert (Bodi) Beason, David (D.J.) Hearn and Marcell (Celly) Marshall.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Posey and Deloris Munsey-Posey, both of Chicago; son, Jerrell T. Gabriel and brother, Michael Posey of Chicago.
