IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven J.
Hirst
January 27, 1954 – November 22, 2017
Steven J. Hirst, 63, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, surrounded by his loving family.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation is from 2 to 5 pm Sunday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be conducted at 5 pm. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or to the Rock Island Conservation Club.
Born January 27, 1954, in Rock Island, Steve was the son of Edward "Jack" Hirst and Adele (Beaudry) Hirst. He married Mary Strupp on August 27, 1976. Steve was a Registered Nurse for more than 30 years, first in the (former) Franciscan ER in Rock Island, then moved to Genesis ICU in Davenport, completing his career in the OR at Genesis in Davenport.
In his free time, Steve enjoyed pheasant and deer hunting, ice fishing, decorating his house for the holidays, cheering on the Cubs, watching NASCAR races and spending time with his beloved family. Around his home are rustic memorials, such as deer antlers, from his many trips to northern Minnesota.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary; daughters, Nicole (Caine) Schneider and Melissa (Dewey) Carpenter; son, John (Meghan) Hirst; grandchildren, Rachel, Vaughn, Caiden, Colin, Alexa, Elijah, Caleb, Finley and Rylynn; siblings, Terrance Hirst, Rodney (Sharon) Hirst, Jeffrey (Kathy) Hirst, and Jacqueline (Joe) DePoorter; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Adele; his father, Jack; brothers-in-law, John Strupp and Tom Strupp; and his cherished mother-in-law, Leone Strupp.
Mary and the children would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff at the offices of Mario Sy, MD, Genesis Hospice and the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their compassion and excellent care.
