IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven M
Hood
December 19, 1947 – March 6, 2026
Steven M. Hood, 78, Sherrard, IL passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026 at UnityPoint-Trinity Hospital, Rock Island, IL. There will be a visitation from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the funeral home. Burial at North German Cemetery, Sherrard, IL. Memorials may be made to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry, or Victory Junction Camp.
Steve was born on December 19, 1947 to Maurice and Stata (Stallings) Hood in Moline, IL. He grew up in Rock Island, graduating from Rocky in 1965. On July 2, 1966 he was united in marriage to Janice Parry at Memorial Heights Methodist Church in Rock Island. They lived briefly in Rock Island and then made their home in Milan for many years before moving to Sherrard in 2006.
Steve began his career as a meat cutter and worked for many years at Geifman’s. He later worked in shipping at Lewis Machine and Tool in Milan before transferring to the Rock Island Arsenal, where he was employed as a packer and shipper until his retirement. Steve also proudly served the community as an Auxiliary Police Officer in Milan for 15 years. Steve and Janice were longtime members of the Midwest Corvette Club. Together they enjoyed showing their cars and participating in drag racing—Janice as the driver and Steve as the mechanic. Steve also spent time working with Mike Bardoel on his racecar. As a sports fan, he enjoyed following NASCAR and cheering on the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs.
Hunting and fishing were among Steve’s greatest passions, and he especially enjoyed sharing those experiences with his family. He often hunted deer and turkey on his son’s land, and every year he took a fishing trip with his father and brothers, going to a different place each time. As the years went on, the tradition grew to include their sons and grandsons.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of almost 60 years, Janice; sons, Steven (Juliane) Hood and Douglas Hood; grandchildren, Aurora (Jeff) Kay, Jared Hood, and Connor Hood; brothers, Larry (Betty) Hood, Rick (Kathy) Hood and Brad (Mindy) Hood; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
To leave condolences for the family, please sign the guestbook.
