Steven C. Novak, 75, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at a later date. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting Steve's family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local animal shelter in Steve's memory.
Steve was born August 17, 1949, in Rock Island, a son of Sam H. and Dorothy L. (Groves) Novak. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1967. Steve married Kristine M. Shurtz in May 1999.
Steve served an apprenticeship and dedicated much of his life to his work as an iron worker, where he was known for his skill, precision, and dedication. He retired in 2009.
Outside of work, Steve had many passions. He loved photography and had an eye for capturing beauty in everyday moments. Because of his talent, he was the PR representative for the smooth jazz association and spent 25 years assisting with jazz events. Steve was also an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time on the golf course. Above all, he was an animal lover and cherished his late dogs, Savannah and Jazz.
Those left to cherish Steve's memory include his wife of 25 years, Kris; children, Robyn (Travis) Gates, Milan, Ryan (Rhonda) Novak, Moline, Todd (Lisa) Shurtz, Columbus, Ohio, and Eric (Anne) Shurtz, Moline; grandchildren, Brittany (Joe), Connor (Margo), McKenna, Sam, Morgan, Riley, Justin (Carly); ten great-grandchildren; brother, Jeff Novak; sister-in-law, Kay Novak; and several grand puppies.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ragan Novak; and brothers, Joel Novak and Steven Craig Novak.
