Obituary

Sue C. Camp, 85, of Rock Island, passed away Friday, February 21, 2025, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island comforted by her husband and two children, who were by her side.

Sue was born December 4, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Doyle and Thelma (Schwaegler) Tyler, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, Class of 1958 and Drake University in 1961. Sue is survived by her high school sweetheart, Gary Camp, whom she married on June 17, 1961.  Her memory is cherished by her son Todd Camp (and wife Cheryl), her daughter Dana Sidoryk; her grandchildren Adam Camp, Ryan Camp, Kenny Sidoryk (and wife Gracie), Tyler Sidoryk and Lexie Sidoryk; and her brother Philip Tyler.

Sue followed a career in elementary school teaching first in Des Moines and later in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, after devoting her energy, heart and soul to raising her two children. Sue was an accomplished academic as well, having obtained her master's in education and retired from her teaching career to travel with her husband and friends.  She was a skilled seamstress, lending her talents to both work and recreational projects and teaching many others her skills. Her other pursuits included membership in the Rock Island Arsenal Nine Hole Golf league and Two Rivers United Methodist Church in Rock Island.  Sue valued her relationship with her close-knit high school girl friends through annual travel to various locales across the country.

Above all other achievements, Sue's highest exaltation was in her two children and five "perfect" grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, and nothing made her happier than having family together. She and Gary were ready and willing babysitters, playmates, and grandchild spoilers and Sue looked forward to the summer weeks when her grandkids would each spend time at "Monnie and Pop Pop Camp" at their home or beach condominium on the Alabama gulf coast. Sue was always the happiest with family together.

A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting Sue's family with arrangements.
