Susan "Sue" Van Thournout, 76, of Milan, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at her home. Born on January 27, 1949, in DeWitt, Iowa, she was the cherished daughter of Vern and Marie (Poell) Bartling. On October 9, 1976, Sue married her beloved husband, Joseph "Joe" Van Thournout, and together they forged a life filled with warmth and devotion.

Known for her creativity, Sue found joy in sewing, crafts, and assembling puzzles, leaving a legacy of handmade treasures and memories. She also enjoyed watching Survivor as well as true crime shows like Forensic Files and Cold Case Files. Sue loved spending days with her loving husband, Joe. She will be missed by many loved ones and friends.

Sue will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Joe; her cherished son, Jason (Jeanna) Van Thournout; her beloved grandchildren, Emmalee and Brenton; and her great-grandchild, Oaklynn. Preceding her in death are her parents; her son, Darrin; and her siblings, Kathy, Debbie, Dale, Don, and Dean.

A memorial visitation to celebrate Sue's life will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Milan. The family invites all who knew and loved Sue to join them in honoring her memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the family.
