January 22, 1944 – April 22, 2016
Tate A. Vroman, 72, of Illinois City, died Friday, April 22, 2016 at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 13228 140th St. W., Taylor Ridge, Ill. Visitation will be Monday from 3-7 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, Milan. Burial will be at Edgington Cemetery, Edgington, Ill. Memorials may be made in care of the family to establish a scholarship fund or award program at Rockridge High School in the near future.
Tate was born on January 22, 1944 in Rock Island, a son of Lyle and Caroline Moos Vroman. He married Mary Ann Bieri on Aug. 17, 1963 at the United Methodist Church, Illinois City.
Mr. Vroman was employed by Rockridge High School as the driver education teacher and football coach. He retired May of 2003 after 37 years of service.
Tate was a member of the Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Illinois Coaches Association, Illinois Education Association, Illinois Retired Teachers Association and was the chairman of the board of the Mercer County Credit Union. He was also a retired Illinois City volunteer firefighter.
Tate had a passion for coaching. He loved spending time with his family and granddaughters, fishing and traveling. Tate and Mary Ann enjoyed wintering in Orange Beach, Ala.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Ann Vroman, Illinois City; sons (and spouses), Greg (Rochelle) Vroman, Taylor Ridge and Eric (Joyce) Vroman, Seneca, Ill.; 7 granddaughters; brothers and sisters, Riley (Judy) Vroman, Andalusia, Marie (Sam) Weindruch, Summit, Ark., Julie (Harold) Sharp, Yellville, Ark., Connie (Kelly) Smithhart, Concrete, Wash. and Debbie (Mike) Day, Apache Junction, Ariz.; and aunt and uncle, Floyd and Zeta Vroman, Moline.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
