Terrance "Terry" Lee Hartley Sr., 79, of Milan, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 21, 2016 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 115 W. 12 Ave., Milan. Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 3 PM on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Burial will be at National Cemetery, with military honors performed by Milan Legion Post #569. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan.
Terry was born January 12, 1937 in Alta, IA, the son of Martin and Geneva (Warme) Hartley. He married Carole Nixon on August 20, 1955 in Jackson, MN. Terry was a proud veteran serving in the United States Navy, where he learned air traffic control. Terry was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller, working at airports including, Atlanta, Corpus Christi, Chicago O'Hare, and the Quad City airport where he retired. He also spent time working at the Oshkosh, WI and Quad City air shows. He enjoyed hunting, coaching baseball and softball, and hunt testing his dogs. Terry raced horses, and in his younger years built his own dragster which he raced down in Texas.
Terry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carole Hartley, Milan; daughter, Roxanne (James) Knauss, Richardson, TX; son, Terry (Holly) Hartley Jr., Milan; Jamie (Rudy Berkvens) Knauss, Tyler Knauss, Tara (Brad) Morse, and Jason Hartley; great grandchildren, Skyler Berkvens, Evie Morse, and Gideon Morse; sister, Sheila Jesse, Storm Lake, IA; and many loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents.
