Obituary

Terri E. Fuhr, 70, of Chicago, IL, passed away on September 4, 2026, surrounded by love after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on February 29, 1956, in Moline, Illinois, Terri was a proud leap-year baby who lived her life with determination and a strong sense of independence. A cheerleader in her younger years, Terri never really put down the pom-poms, always showing up for the people she loved and cheering them on.

Terri graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in business and built a long and successful career that included 10 years at both John Deere and Bandag, followed by 20 years with the State of Illinois as a Senior Public Service Administrator. Retirement then brought her an unexpected and incredibly special chapter: working at Wrigley Field.

A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, Terri spent nine years as a member of the Cubs grounds crew. She loved being at the ballpark, working alongside the best grounds crew in the MLB, and taking tremendous pride in her work, especially cleaning the foul lines before game time. In August 2025, Terri was named Employee of the Month, and this year, her grounds crew teammates nominated her for MLB's HOME RUN Service Award, which recognizes a staff member who goes above and beyond to provide exceptional service to others. Being part of the Cubs organization meant the world to Terri, and she was incredibly proud of her time there.

As much as Terri loved the Cubs, though, there was never any question about who she loved most. Her greatest joys were her Pumpkin, Kayti, and her Rory Bug, who knew and loved her simply as Gaga. She was endlessly proud of Kayti, utterly devoted to Rory, and incredibly grateful to her son-in-law, Ryan, for the love and support he gave them all. Being Mommi and Gaga were the roles she treasured most, and she was happiest simply being a part of their lives. Her faithful Yorkie, Miss Is Sippi, was never far from her side and also held a very special place in her heart.

Terri loved her people fiercely. She was never particularly shy about letting you know exactly what she thought, but underneath that tough exterior was someone who loved deeply and would do just about anything for the people who were hers. If Terri was in your corner, she was all in.

Terri is survived by her daughter, Kayti Eileen (Ryan) Childers; her beloved grandson, Rory William Childers; her sister, Susan M. Fuhr; her nephews, Brody and Griffin Scholl; and lifelong friends, Susan Langan and Barb Jwanowski.

She was preceded in death by her Daddy-O, Robert William Fuhr, and her sister, Robin Frieden.
