Obituary

Terry W. Peterson Sr., 76, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Monday, August 31, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

A Short Memorial Service will take place at 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Mr. Ed’s in Milan on the back patio. A Celebration of Life Gathering will follow immediately until 8:00 PM. The family has asked for all guests to be in casual attire. Memorials may be made to the QC Animal Welfare Center or the American Cancer Society.

Terry was born May 15, 1950, to Burdette “Bud” and Betty Peterson in Moline, IL. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1968 and went on to attend St. Ambrose University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1974. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard, serving until 1975, when he was honorably discharged.

On November 20, 1980, Terry married Connie Krueger in Iowa City, IA. They made their home in Rock Island, where they raised their two sons.

Terry began his working life at Happy Joe’s in Milan in 1974 until 1981 where he worked his way up to owner/operator. He then worked briefly at National ICEE and DeSaulnier’s Printing before beginning his career with FedEx. Terry worked as a courier for 20 years before retiring in 2009.

Terry was someone who was noticed and loved by everyone who knew him. He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He loved shooting the breeze with anyone he encountered, whether he was shopping at the grocery store, delivering packages, hanging out at Mr. Ed’s, or helping out behind the bar at Hafner’s. His stories were legendary, and so was his mustache. He took great pride in his signature ‘stache, as well as his suave hair and personal style. He also never turned down a good pizza pie or a cold one, especially when it was with his family and close friends. And if you saw him “on patrol” a smile and a nod in passing made his day.

His greatest pride and enjoyment came from his family. He loved spending time with Connie, his children, and his grandchildren, whether they were out on the boat or attending the many activities of his kids and grandkids. Being fully present in his family’s life came naturally and something to truly admire.

Terry will be greatly missed by his wife of 45 years, Connie; sons, Terry W. Peterson II and Justin (Rachel) Peterson; grandchildren, Liam, Lillian, and Leila Peterson; honorary family, Tiana Best and Matt (Grace) Sisson; sisters, Pamela (Ron) Amato and Ann Peterson; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
