Terry L. Rummels, 69, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday November 19, 2014 at UPH-Trinity, Rock Island.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24th at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island. Burial, with military honors, will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Vietnam Veterans of America.
Terry was born May 23, 1945 in Rock Island, a son of Wilkin D. and Carrie L. Holland Rummels. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1963. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Terry was formerly married to Linda A. March.
Terry was a skilled machinist and mechanic. In earlier years, Terry worked for Dohrn Transfer, then owned and operated his own auto repair shop, and later worked for Lohse Automotive for many years. He most recently was a property manager. During the course of his life, Terry worked with many people and businesses in the Quad-City area.
He loved spending time with family and friends, drag racing and spending quality time with his nephews, and fishing. He was an avid billiards player and played in area leagues for many years.
Terry will be fondly remembered as a friend to all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Glenna Rummels, Oskaloosa, IA; Adam Rummels, Danville, IL, Vinson Harrelson, St. Paul, Minn., Terrance Harrelson, Solon, IA, Brian Harrelson, Minneapolis, Minn., Anthony Molden, New York City, NY, and Tracy Harrelson, Rock Island; brothers and sisters, Melvin (Karen) Rummels and Thomas Rummels, all of Rock Island, Ricky Rummels, Arizona, Glenn (Kathi) Ruud, Moline, Constance Riddle, Nashville, Tenn., Karen Tibbs, Tyrone, N.M., and Linda (Raymond) Weathersbee, Los Angeles, Calif.; his aunt, Etta Mae Strickland, East Moline; a large host of nieces, nephews and extended family; longtime family friends, Raymond "Sonny" Lohse and Louis White, both of Rock Island, IL , and many other friends.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents; his companion of 26 years, Kathleen Harrelson; his brothers, Milton and Darrell Rummels; and his sisters, Ethel Cook, Delores Duke, Gloria Rummels, Dorthea "Dot" Jones, and Theresa "Resa" Rummels.
