The Reverend Albert D. Lestor, 94, Rock Island, died Friday, September 12, 2014 at Amber Ridge Memory Care, Moline.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 20, 2014) at St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial will Monday at Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island; Jenny Lind Chapel, Andover; Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago; or Heartland Hospice, Davenport.
The Reverend Albert David Lestor was born May 31, 1920 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Albert and Alice Dahlgren Lestor.
After graduation from Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minn. and Augustana Theological Seminary, Rock Island, he was ordained in the Lutheran ministry in Kansas City, Missouri in 1947.
In 1952 he married Elaine Olson in Lynn, Massachusetts.
Pastor Lestor served parishes in Walnut Creek and Pico Rivera, both in California and Chicago, Andover, North Henderson, and Henderson Grove in Illinois. Since retirement the Lestors have been members of St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island.
While serving in Andover, he was instrumental in the restoration of the Jenny Lind Chapel.
After retirement he volunteered for many organizations, among them were Breach Menders, Habitat for Humanity, L.I.F.E., Trinity Medical Center, and Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine; son, David (Diane) Lestor, Orion; daughter, Martha Lestor, Coal Valley; granddaughter, Amanda (Daniel) Belknap, Roselle, Ill.; grandson, Andrew (Samantha) Lestor, Waterloo, Iowa; and great-grandsons, Henry and Owen Belknap.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Irving Lestor; and sisters, Virginia Lindberg, Eleanor Schultz and Rosemarie Johnson.
