Rev. Johnjoseph DePorres (Jerry) Logan, 69, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. The Most Rev. Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C., D.D., Bishop of Peoria will be celebrant. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 2pm and a wake prayer will be said at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Women's Choice Center, Bettendorf, or to the Sacred Heart Food Pantry, Rock Island.
Jerry M. Logan was born Jan. 22, 1947 in Rock Island, a son of Donald M. and Marilyn E. Nicholson Logan.
He graduated from Alleman High School in 1965. Father Logan attended Loyola University, Chicago and graduated from Conception Seminary College, Conception, Mo. He later received a Masters of Theology degree from Moreau Seminary at the University of Notre Dame.
Father Logan was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Peoria by Most Rev. Edward W. O'Rourke, D.D. on May 26, 1979. He served at St. Columba Catholic Church, Ottawa, St. Mary Catholic Church, East Moline, and was Chaplain at the Misericordia Homes and Heart Of Mercy Village, Chicago. Father Logan was pastor at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Silvis, St. Peter Catholic Church, Peoria, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Annawan, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hooppole, and St. Patrick Catholic Church, Sheffield. He also served as parochial vicar at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island and was currently serving as administrator of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, both of Rock Island.
Survivors include his brothers and sister, Patrick Logan (Rita Coyne), Moline, William Logan, Moline, James G. (Arlyce) Logan, Moline, Kathleen Logan, Moline, and Thomas (Vicki) Logan, Macomb, Mich.; nephews and nieces, Michael Coyne-Logan, Daniel Coyne-Logan (Jennifer O'Hare), Nora Coyne-Logan, Alecia M. (Ryan) Burns, Lance G. Logan, and Thomas Delcourt; great-nieces and great-nephews, Emmy, Jonathon, Delaney, Murphy and Logan. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Timothy Logan.
