Larry Alan Fortado

The Reverend Larry Alan Fortado, 77, of Milan, died Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. A memorial service will be at 11 am Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Rock Island First Church of the Nazarene, 2921 38th Street, Rock Island. The visitation will be from 10 – 11 am Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made in care of Rock Island First Church of the Nazarene. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family.
Larry, a son of Joseph G. and Nellie Hawk Fortado, was born in Jacksonville, Illinois on February 23, 1944. He married Dora Doyle on June 12, 1966 on the campus of Illinois College.
Larry earned a bachelor's and master's degree in library science and was working on his final dissertation for his doctorate when the Lord called him into full-time ministry. Larry served as an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene for 32 years in Lanett, Alabama, Rock Island, Illinois, Peru, Illinois and Sandwich, Illinois. He retired in 2010.
Larry was a member of Rock Island First Church of the Nazarene. He was an avid sports fan, reader, and story teller. He enjoyed watching movies, as well as writing a Christmas story every year for his family, whom he loved dearly.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dora Fortado, Milan; daughters (and spouses), Reya (Rich) Moritz, Milan, Illinois, Sherry (Scott) Sherwood, Lenexa, Kansas, and Tina (Tom) Nelson, Bridgewater, Virginia; grandchildren, Joseph, Kaylie, Libby, Madeira (Bradley), Brooke, Michael and Madison; and great-grandson, Ivan.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his siblings, Robert Fortado and Mary Lou Fishel.
