Theresa M. Cavins, 90, of Rock Island passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Amber Ridge Assisted Living, Moline.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island, which will be live-streamed at https://vimeo.com/641206630. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, with a rosary to be recited at 3:30 pm. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island.
Theresa was born on June 28, 1931 in Rock Island, the daughter of Eugene and Teresa (Sersig) Wells. She married Louis Cavins on February 23, 1952 in Rt. Riley, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1995.
She graduated from the last class at St. Joseph High, Rock Island. She then went on to attend Mary Crest College in Davenport.
Theresa was employed at Bituminous Insurance Company, Rock Island, and retired after 20 years. She was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. Theresa served as a Eucharistic minister and often volunteered at the food pantry. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, jigsaw puzzles, reading, crocheting and spending time with family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, John (Karen) Cavins, Rock Island, Edward Cavins, Moline, Theresa (Bill) Santee, Rock Island, Rose Cuevas, Rock Island, Gary (Rose) Cavins, Rock Island, Stephen (Gina) Cavins, Rock Island and Joseph (Edna) Cavins, Rock Island; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Dr. Robert Wells, Joseph Wells, Jeanne Visteen and Joan Wells; a brother in law and sister in law, Gilbert "Skip" and Donna Cavins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Marvin Daniel; grandson, Terance Cavins; sister, Mary Ann Costello; brothers, John and James Wells.
The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff at Amber Ridge and Heartland Hospice for the excellent care they gave to their mother.
