Tom was born on July 23, 1947, in Rock Island, Illinois, son of Virgil and Lorraine (Jinks) Spengler. He graduated from Sherrard High School in 1965. Tom was united in marriage to Janet (Wagoner) Spengler in 1966. He served honorably in the United States Army as an artillery specialist from 1966 to 1968 at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. He returned from service to work at John Deere Harvester in East Moline until his retirement in 1996.
Tom was a high school athlete and an avid hunter and sportsman, enjoying countless hours in nature. His true love was his family, for whom Tom was the greatest fan. Tom volunteered his time coaching softball and football and made a valiant effort to never miss an event, game or match if it involved his children, grandchildren or great grandchildren.
We find comfort in knowing that Tom is now at peace. Those left to honor his memory include his wife Janet, and his three daughters; Anjanette (Marc) Swingle of Eldridge, Kristine (Jim) Lingafelter of Matherville, and Jacquelyn (Dan) Carstens of Bettendorf; His grandchildren Malia Swingle, Marcus Swingle, Hannah (Clayton) Bjustrom, Cameron (Maddie) Lingafelter, Grant Akers, Kaleb Akers, Trey Akers, Kiegan Carstens and Malayna Carstens; Great grandchildren Alice Lingafelter, Carson Bjustrom, Walker Bjustrom, River Akers, Theo Lingafelter, Reed Bjustrom, and two more babies expected this summer, whom he was very excited to meet.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Larry Spengler; his parents-in-law William and Martha Wagoner.
