Obituary

Thomas (Tom) Hobert was born on November 7, 1942, to Walter and Ruby Hobert. Tom had a full life that was greatly impacted by the family and friends he made throughout the way. In his early years, Tom worked as a journeyman sheet metal worker and spoke of the folks of Modern Heating as if they were family. With the experience he gained there, he opened and operated his first business, Hobert’s Fireplace, in 1975. That entrepreneurial spirit drove Tom to open the Teller House, Saloon and Eatery in Moline which he built from the ground up and operated until 1990. Tom would later own a commercial construction company where he and his beloved wife, Bonne of 50 years would travel across the country building and remodeling restaurants. Tom, known for his quick wit, kindness and innate likability, garnered many acquaintances and friendships through his many business ventures.

Tom was busy outside of work as well. He enjoyed his involvement with ASA softball and the 4H club at the Weir Horse Barn, where he would become lifelong friends with the owners. Tom’s true passion however came from being a grandparent. Tom, a natural mentor, enjoyed showing his grandkids the wonders of the world. From nature skills, to riding bikes, to simply feeding his chickens; Tom’s time with his grandchildren was truly his greatest treasure.
