Thomas Roddy Jr., 78, of Rock Island, passed away Monday June 23, 2014 at UPH-Trinity, Bettendorf, IA.

A mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30am Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2208-4th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00-6:00pm, with a rosary recited at 5:00pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island, IL. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, with military honors. Memorials may be left to The Fountains - Memory Care, Bettendorf.

Thomas was born on October 21, 1935 in Cornlea, NE, the son of Thomas and Della (Schaecher) Roddy. He married Celia "Dutch" Jacobs on July 19, 1971 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on August 24, 2005.

Mr. Roddy was a United States Marine Corp. Veteran having served during the Korean War.

He had been employed at John Deere Plow Planter for 33 years before his retirement.

Mr. Roddy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and VFW 1303, both of Rock Island. He enjoyed watching the New York Yankee's.

Survivors include his sons, Richard Speed, El Cajon, CA, Allen(Tracie) Speed, Arlington, TX,.; several grandchildren; brother, Darrell Roddy, Freemont, NE; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brothers, Ronald and Alvin Roddy.
