Obituary

Thomas G. Maack Sr., 82 Milan, IL passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025 at his home surrounded by his wife and daughter. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice Moline, IL. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the hospice team.

Tom was born on June 27, 1943 to Dora Milke in Peoria, IL. He was raised by his foster parents, Milton and Cornelia Maack on a farm near Ladora, IA. He attended HLV High School and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on May 29, 1961. Tom served until 1965 when he was honorably discharged and then returned to the farm.

Tom moved to the Quad Cities to start his career as a machinist for Caterpillar. He worked in Bettendorf, IA later Davenport and then Pontiac, IL. Tom retired in 1997 after 33 years with the company.

On July 31, 1969 Tom was united in marriage to Mary Lynn Martin at First Christian Church in Moline, IL. The couple made their home in Bettendorf, IA where they raised their three children.

Tom and Mary loved to travel. They took their camper all over the country, spending many winters in the Rio Grande Valley in TX. They also went to all the National Parks out west where they were avid hikers. For several years, they also worked and lived in Yellowstone National Park.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lynn; children, Kristin (Darryl) Howard, Kelly Maack, Thomas (Kami) Maack Jr.; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Troy Howard, Maurice Maack and Mayci Maack.
