Tyyne L. Thompson, 93, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday January 7, 2015 at Rosewwod Care Center, Moline.
Services are 10:00am, Monday at Church of Peace UCC, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 2:00pm-4:00pm Sunday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be left to Church of Peace UCC, Rock Island.
Tyyne was born on July 14, 1921 in Moline, the daughter of John and Edla (Kumpulainen) Koivisto. She married Tommie R. Thompson on June 16, 1951 in Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 19, 1987.
She was a Graduate of Rock Island High School in 1939 and later attended Brown Business College.
Mrs. Thompson had been employed as the secretary of Central Junior High School, Rock Island, she later worked at the former Franciscan Hospital as the Human Resources secretary from 1971 to 1986 . She was employee of the year in 1985 and awarded with honorary life membership in the Franciscan Auxiliary.
Tyyne was a active member of Church of Peace UCC, Rock Island, where she served on the Filiae Pacis Circle, Womens Guild, Alter Guild, choir member and as a Sunday school teacher. She was also active in the PTA and had been a USO hostess during WWII.
Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Thompson, Rock Island, Nancy (Dennis) Spurgetis, Rock Island; four grandsons, Travis, Josh, Anthony, Jason; seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Aune Crapnell; sister and brother in law, Vieno and Robert Martensen.
