Obituary

Velma E. Bingaman, 97, of Rock Island, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

A visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island with a private family graveside following at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be left in care of Rock Island Animal Shelter or First Lutheran Evangelical Church, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.

The oldest of seven, Velma was born on October 8, 1927, in Wyanet, IL, a daughter of Hubert R. and Isabel (Schandelmeier) McCloud. She married Walter J. "Bing" Bingaman on May 14, 1950, in Quincy, IL and he preceded her in death. Velma retired from Royal Neighbors of America in 1994, where she worked in marketing.

Velma's hobbies included playing cards (especially bridge), quilting, traveling and golfing. Above all else, she cherished the time that she got to spend with her family and was especially proud of her four daughters and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Velma's memory include her daughters, Carlene Boxman, Everett, WA, Kristine (Steve) Gordon, Rock Island, Sandra Rios, Kerrville, TX and Nena (Troy) Myers, Rock Island; grandchildren, Clinton (Megan) Boxman, Kingston, WA, Ashley (Jimmy Jones) Boxman, Everett, WA, Kelly (Steve) Hastings, Everett, WA, Eric (Yolanda) Gordon, Milan, Laura Gordon, Davenport, Travis (Katherine) Cochran, Corpus Christi, TX, Samantha (Raaj) Mojan, Albuquerque, NM, Austin Rios, San Antonio, TX, Kirk (Janae) Kettler, Franklin, NC, Kayte (Dan) Witten, Winfield, IL and Grant (Shannan) Myers, Geneseo, IL; great-grandchildren, Ben, Abigail, Zoe, Zander, Zeryck, Landon, Audrey, Cash, Kennedy, Derek, Hank, Noah, Alexis, Seth, Cole, Claire and Isabel; and siblings, Willard McCloud, Charlette Nielson, Ruth Pioterek, and Alice May.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant brother, and brother, John McCloud.

The family would like to thank the staff at Silver Cross for their continued support and care of Velma.
