Vera Babers, 91, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday October 17, 2025 at Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 2106 7th Avenue, Rock

Island. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.

Vera was born on October 8, 1934, in Dermont, Arkansas, the daughter of Floyd and Aris Lowe. She married RC Babers, and together they shared 36 years of marriage before his

passing.

Vera was known for her love of classic cowboy movies and her passion for watching all kinds of sports—she never missed a game. She enjoyed gospel music and old R&B classics and

cherished her conversations with her brothers and sisters. A devoted homemaker, Vera took great pride in caring for her family. She especially loved cooking and made sure every holiday gathering was a true feast filled with love and laughter.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, RC; parents, Floyd and Aris Lowe; brothers Henry, Jerry, and "Baby Boy"; sisters Arzella and Margaret (Peggy); and her daughter Glenda.

She is survived by her brother Bobby Lowe; sisters Dorothy Nance (Florida) and Irean Pettigrew (Chicago); sons Robert Babers (Teresa), David Babers (Jen), and Eric Babers;

grandchildren Kayla Babers, Jasmine Babers-Gunn, Jada Babers, Quincy Houston, Olivia Babers, and Trae Babers; and great-grandchildren Myles, Mylah, Omari, Dream, Nova, and Brielle. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to Vera's neighbor, Isabella, for her kindness and help in getting Vera to her appointments.

Vera will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
