Vera Ramirez, 85, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am on Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island.  Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church.   Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Vera was born Sept. 17, 1930 in Rock Island, a daughter of Florencio and Emilia Robles Ramirez.  She graduated from Rock Island High School.  Vera worked for several employers during her life including Bonnie's Bakery, serving as a maid for the Cox Family, the Rock Island and Moline Housing Authorities, Ericksen Chevrolet, and her favorite job was working as a bus monitor for Johannes Bus Co.

Vera enjoyed reading Amish books and working crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her children, James "Snoop" Ramirez, with whom she lived, Rock Island,  Johnna Ramirez, Fargo, N.D., Marty (Barb) Ramirez, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Robert Hicks II, and Marissa, Dawn, Rose and Jazmin Ramirez; great-grandchildren, Aleah and Tyrese; and brothers, Frank Ramirez, Moline, Joe (Helen) Ramirez, East Moline, and Lencho (Kathy) Ramirez, Pensacola, Fla.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jenny Bustos, Mary Solis and Helen Mosquedo; and brothers, Manuel and John Ramirez.

The family wishes to extend their thanks for the loving and compassionate care given to Vera by Dr. Horni, Dr. Purri  and the staffs of Trinity-Rock Island and OSF St. Francis Medical Center during her illness.  The family also thanks all of the people who made Vera's life special and have supported the family.  We love you.
