Vernita Walker, 56, of Rock Island, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at her residence. There will be no public services at this time. Cremation rites have been accorded. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Vernita was born on July 20, 1964 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of Wilson and Betty Ruth (Lampkin) Walker. Vernita worked various jobs as an administrative assistant before retiring due to a medical disability.

Those left to cherish Vernita's memory include her son, Charles O'Brien Walker; brothers, Fred Walker, Indiana, Eddie Walker, Rock Island; and sisters, Addie Ruth White, Arkansas, Bertha Foster, both of Arkansas, Berta Brown, Ohio, Sara Oaks, Gloria Lampkin, and Alma Womack, all of Illinois.

Vernita was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, McArthur Walker, DeMorris Lampkin, Willie Walker, and Douglas Walker.

Vernita enjoyed cooking, music, and time spent with family and friends. She was skilled in too many ways to count but her ability to instill love and inspiration into everyone she came across is something we will desperately miss. May her warmth and infectious personality live on in our hearts.
