Obituary

Vickie Jo Kent, 71, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully at home on June 23, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and close friends. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Bethel Assembly of God, 3535 38th Ave, Rock Island, IL. A Funeral service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the church. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the Bethel Assembly of God Girls Ministries.

Vickie was born on October 19, 1954, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of the late Harlan and Eunice (Gosney) Mason. Faith and community were the pillars of her life; she was a lifelong, devoted member of Bethel Assembly of God, which she truly considered her home away from home.

A faithful servant of the Lord, Vickie dedicated decades to nurturing the faith of others, particularly young women. Her lifelong journey with the church's girls' ministry began in her youth, when she achieved the rank of Missionettes Honor Star. She went on to lead with passion, serving for 28 years as Bethel Church’s Girls Ministry Director and for 10 years as the Missionettes Director for the Illinois District of the Assemblies of God.

Vickie was also the administrative heartbeat of her congregation, serving for 32 years as the Church Secretary and later as the Office Manager. Her leadership extended across many facets of ministry, including serving on the Bethel Missions Board, directing the Prime Timers ministry, teaching the Ladies Sunday School class, and volunteering for Vacation Bible School. She could always be found serving wherever and whenever she was needed.

Outside of her ministry, Vickie delighted in the simple joys of life. She loved shopping, and planting flowers, above all, she loved spending time and making memories with her family and dear friends.

She is survived by her loving husband, William "Bill" Kent; her children, Shane Misch of Russellville, AR, and Darrick (Amy) Kent of Austin, TX; her stepchildren, Andrea (Tim) Edwards and Shannon Hofer, both of Mesa, AZ; her brother, Terry (Karla) Mason of Franklin, TN; her sister-in-law, Mary Mason of Davenport, IA, sister-in-law Cori (Paul) Sierra of Davenport, IA, and Janet Lawson of West Melbourne, FL; and a large, blessed legacy of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan and Eunice Mason; her brothers, Alan “Dean” Mason and Gary Mason; her sister, Dee Ann (Mason) Harris; her brother-in-law Roger Lawson, her stepson, Jeff Misch; her stepdaughter, Angela Kent; and her granddaughter, McKenzie Kent.

The family wishes to express a deep and special thank you to her sister-in-law, Mary Mason, for her extraordinary love and care for Vickie throughout her cancer treatments, and to her special friend of over 50 years, Rachel Rogers, for being her lifelong sister in Christ and very best friend.
