Victor Reyes, 92, of Rock Island, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at St. Anthony's Nursing and Rehab, Rock Island.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 828 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA.  Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.  Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Centerville.  Memorials may be made in care of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Centerville.

Victor was born in Centerville, Iowa on Feb. 10, 1924 a son of Victoriano and Marianna  Vargas Reyes.   He married Olive "Olga" Schwab on Sept. 17, 1960 at Sacred Heart Church in Rock Island, Ill.

Victor worked at Farmall and later for many years at Augustana College in maintenance.  He served honorably in the United States Army from 1943-49 earning the Philippines Liberation Ribbon.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 70 years and Rock Island V.F.W. Post 200.

Victor's father died before he was born and early in life he and his siblings took on the role of providers for their family. He knew what it meant to work hard and be dedicated to others. He was a kind, compassionate person who cared for his family, neighbors and those in need. He was a loving and devoted son and husband. Everyone who knew him was impressed with his politeness, sense of humor and concern for others. His nieces and nephews will miss his cheerfulness and generous spirit.

He is survived by his daughter Victoria Reyes and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Felix, Joseph and Santos and sisters Petra Castillo (Paul), Sister Marilyn Reyes, C.H.M. and Sanita Mancuso (Nick).
