Victoria ("Vicky") Cortez, 84, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away on November 10, 2025. There will be a rosary at 3:30 PM with a visitation following from 4-6:00 PM on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 14, 2025 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that memorials be made to Alleman High School.
Vicky was born on February 27, 1941, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of John Vallejo and Cora (Martinez) Vallejo. She grew up in Rock Island.
Vicky graduated from Alleman High School in Rock Island. She later attended Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, KS, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology.
Vicky married Fermin Cortez on June 1, 1963. Together they raised four children: Greg, Becky, Phil and Tina.
Vicky worked for Head Start for many years. She was a longtime member of St. Pius X church in Rock Island, where she volunteered for many causes.
Her hobbies included crafting, quilting, reading the daily newspaper, collecting Santas of all types, and watching women's basketball. Her family was very important to her, and she was very proud of her children and grandchildren.
Vicky is survived by her husband Fermin, son Greg of Rock Island, daughter Becky (Joe) Van Nostrand of Northville, New York, son Phil of Plainfield, Illinois, and daughter Tina (Erik) Fosker of Pleasant Hill, California. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nick, Matt, and Maria Van Nostrand, and Emily Fosker, as well as her siblings Angie (Edd) Welsch, Richard (Pat), Gloria (Jim) Yuncker, Tom (Eileen), Rose (Daniel) Sedillo, Michael (Cindy), Dan (Denise), and David. Additionally, she is survived by many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
Vicky was preceded in death by her parents. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
