Violet L. Lenser, 86, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf surrounded by her family.

Private family services are at the Memorial Park Mausoleum, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, or to Broadway Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.

Violet L. Gorman was born Aug. 1, 1928 in Perryton Township, Mercer County, Illinois, a daughter of Harold and Mabel Carver Gorman. She attended Reynolds High School and graduated from Sterling School of Cosmetology, Moline. Violet married Ralph W. Lenser on Dec. 2, 1945 in Hamlet, Ill. The couple planned to celebrate their 70th anniversary this year.

After raising their children, Violet worked for a number of years at Holland's and Samuel's Jewelry Stores in Moline. She was a devoted mother and doting grandmother who cherished family gatherings and gave selflessly to those she loved. Her home-cooked meals were the stuff of legend - with requests for signature dishes and family recipes phoned in from thousands of miles away. Violet's generosity, warmth, and kindness will be deeply missed.

Violet is survived by her husband, Ralph; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dave Davis, Moline; grandchildren, Brent (Peggy) Ohl, Eldridge, Craig Ohl, Eldridge, and Laura Davis, New York, NY; great grandchildren, Tom and Charlie Ohl; sister, Virginia Van Velzer, Tucson, AZ; niece, Liz (David) Curry; and nephew, Don (Jean) McAtee. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda Ohl; and niece, Penny McKelvey.

The family wishes to thank Friendship Home Services, Homebound Heath Care, the staff of Heartland Health Care Center and Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for the loving and compassionate care given to Violet. Special thanks is offered to Ashley, Kristie and Mary for the assistance, care and love given to Violet while she was home.
