Virgil W. Hindman, 86, of Okeechobee, Fla., formerly of Rock Island, died Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Lawnwood Medical Center in Ft. Pierce, FL

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave.,  Rock Island. Visitation is 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Post 4423, Okeechobee, Florida

Virgil was born September 6, 1932 in Cutler, IL, a son of Murray and Emma (Steele) Hindman.  He served his country in the U.S. Army and married Elaine Wright on August 6, 1955.  Elaine passed away December 12, 2013. Virgil was a member of the American Legion Post 64 and VFW Post 4423, both in Florida. He greatly enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Susan Hindman, Okeechobee, and Mark and Kathy Hindman, Hinckley, Ill.; grandchildren, Eric Hindman, Nicole (Allen) Putney and Michael Hindman; great-grandchildren, Harlow and Shelby Putney, Jaiden Hindman; siblings, Lela Sauls and many more extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, his parents and siblings, Ollie, Howard, Harold and Edward Hindman and Myrtle Erving and June Scheffel, Mary Brown, Eula Fowler.
