Virginette E. Smith, 96, of Viola, passed away Tuesday April 29, 2025 at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, Friday May 2, 2025 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, with a rosary recited at 4:30 PM. Private burial will be held Monday in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the family.

Virginette was born on June 11, 1928 in Davenport, the daughter of Elmer and Mary (Mennig) York. She married Harold E. Smith January 23, 1948 in Holy Family Church.

Virginette had retired from John Deere Parts Distribution Center, Milan. She loved spending time with her family and snow birding in Florida.

Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.

Survivors include her children, Sherry (Jon) Dobereiner, Silvis, Eugene Smith, New Windsor, Gregg (Twyla) Smith, Lynn Center, James (Debra) Smith, Calhoun, Georgia, Theresa Plunkett, Viola, Kent (Rose) Smith, Milan, Joy White, Viola, Candace Smith, Milan, Mary (Lisa) Walker, Rock Island; 26 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren; 3 great-great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents, Elmer and Mary; siblings, Melvin York, Pearl Grobman, Elmer York, Lavern York, Kenneth York, Mary Margaret, Elizabeth (Betty) Graw, Virgil York; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
