With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of Walter J. Criswell, a gentle and creative soul of Rock Island, IL. Born in Moline, Illinois, on November 11, 1956, Walter walked this earth for 68 years, leaving behind a trail of kindness and generosity that touched a plethora of hearts over many decades.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 3rd, 2025, at Prospect Park in Moline, Illinois. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family. The family asks that you do something kind for someone to pay respects to Walter.
Walter could usually be found playing his guitar in the park and drinking Folger's coffee with half and half. Inspired by life, laughter, and love, Walter frequently wrote poems and music that resonated deeply with anyone privileged enough to be his audience. He also had a large treasure trove of jokes and never failed to make someone laugh.
Walter's profound legacy lives on through his beloved family. He is survived by his three children Kathleen (Bee) Criswell, Norie (Lyss Chiampi) Criswell, and Rosie (Steven Unger) Criswell; their mother Linda Criswell; one granddaughter, Sage Criswell-Unger; and his siblings, Pat (Bob) Sweetin, Theresa (Kevin) Williamson, George (Chris) Criswell, Beryl Wilson, Bonnie (Don) Carey, and Norie (Richard) Criswell-Myers, who will carry his memory forward in the echoes of laughter and love they share. Their bond with him will forever remain a cherished part of their lives.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Beryl and JoAnn (Amesquita) Criswell; and siblings, Donna Normoyle and Vickie Moore.
In life as well as death, Walter continues to inspire kindness in creativity in the world. The family asks that you never stop creating and never stop loving.
