Walter L. Day , 80, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Friday, January 21, 2022 at St. Anthony's Care Center, Rock Island.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 5, at The Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 2106 7th Ave., Rock Island. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 4, at The Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory.

Walter was born August 26, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Walter L. Day, Jr. and Marie Lewis Day. He married Evelyn Cotton.

He was a supervisor at Oscar Mayer for 35 years.

Walter was a member of Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church, East Moline. He was an avid bowler in several area leagues for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn, of Rock Island; son, Danny (Kim) Day, Portland, OR, daughters, Deidre (Zach) Hubech, Chicago, IL and Dawn (Eric) Wright, Texas; stepdaughters, Kelly Grayson, Dallas, TX and Shanette Luter, North Liberty, IA; godson, John Thorpe, Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Matthew Day, Tyson Hubech, Dylan Hubech, Jackson Hubech, Kendall Day, Logan Day, Bridgette Wright, Derrick Williams, Daejon Thorpe, Jaydan Luter and Yakima Thorpe; sisters, Lorraine (William) Montgomery, Atlanta, GA and Marie Day, Maryland; brother, Michael (Gayle) Day, Chicago, IL; daughter-in-law, Nereyda Day, Los Angeles, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews and additional family; brothers-in-law, Willie Cotton, Rock Island and Tervaus Morrow, Geneseo, IL; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cotton, Rock Island and Sharon Harris, Rock Island.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; son, Darwin Day; and a grandson, Justin Day.
