Obituary

Walter F. Schaecher, 92, of Rock Island, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am, Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 3 pm followed by Father Edward J. Bader Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus chalice ceremony. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or to the Quad Cities Right to Life. Walter was born on December 22, 1925 in Humphrey, Nebraska, a son of Joseph and Josephine (Schaefer) Schaecher. He married Mary Ann Murphy on April 4, 1959 in Sterling, IL. Walt owned and operated Walt's Service, Rock Island from 1961 until his death. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, Knights of Columbus Allouez Council No. 658, Rock Island, Father Edward J. Bader Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, St. Pius X Church Choir, Spirit Singers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline and Ephphetha Choir of Peoria. Participation in the Ephphetha Choir allowed him and Mary Ann to travel to Rome where the choir performed for the Pope at the Vatican. He had served as an usher at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Walt performed in the St. Pius Parish musicals, Fiddler on the Roof and Music Man and also Brigadoon at Playcrafters in Moline.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Above all the most important things to Walt in life were his Faith, his loving wife, and his family. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; children, Jeff (Mary Anne) Schaecher, Rock Island, Mark (Suzie) Schaecher, Rock Island, Joseph Schaecher, Rock Island, Lisa (Craig) Stear, Bryon, IL. and Sarah (Scott) Krase, Wheaton, IL.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Imelda Echoldt, Columbus, NE.; and a sister in law, Bernadine Schaecher, Moline. Walt was preceded in death by his parents; 12 brothers and sisters; and a daughter in law, Susan Schaecher. Online condolences may be left for the family at wheelanpressly.com
