Walter L. Smith, 88, of Milan, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Hope Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation, East Moline.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Walter was born on February 8, 1936 in Rock Island, IL, a son of George and Lillian (Schmitt) Smith. He married Patsy L. Frederickson on December 17, 1955 and she preceded him in death. Walter worked in construction for Local 309 for over 20 years before retiring.

Walter's hobbies included playing cards, fishing, bowling and golfing.

Those left to cherish Walter's memory include his children, Lee (Lori) Smith, Milan, Vickie Mortell, Hampton, Linda (Brian) Goeden, Colona and Jay (Karissa) Smith, Appleton, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and brothers, Robert Smith, Milan and Paul Smith, Aurora.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy; parents; sisters, Greta Terrill and Betty Anders; and sister in law, Marlene Smith.
