Obituary

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4.

Rev. Dr. Walton Jones Sr., 49, returned to his heavenly home on June 17, 2019. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God was the foundation of his life.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday June 22, 2019 at Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM.

Additional services will be held at First True Love Outreach Ministries, Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Burial on Monday July 1, 2019 at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, Louisiana. Memorials may be left to his family.

Walton was born on January 24, 1970 in Independence, LA, the son of Bishop Albert L. Carter, Sr.& Deborah Carter; Walter Jones and Doris Pinestraw. He married the former Tena Brumfield on July 6, 2013. He graduated from Albany High School before enlisting into the United States Army.

Faithfully serving his country, Walton served in Southwest Asia, Haiti, Iraq, Germany and several bases throughout the states. Dr. Jones, retired from the United States Army on July 31, 2017 after 28 years of service. His last service was as Command Sergeant Major with the Joint Munitions Command, Rock Island Arsenal.

He is a graduate of the prestigious United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. He earned his Doctorate Degree in Christian Leadership from Union Bible Theological Seminary, Master's Degree in Divinity from the Christian Bible Institute & Seminary and a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies from the United Theological Seminary. He served as Veteran's Ambassador for the Iowa Missionary & Educational Baptist State Convention and as the Assistant Dean for the Eastern District Association of Iowa. He served as Pastor of New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Gloucester, Virginia, Greater True Love Missionary Baptist Church, Clinton, Iowa and was currently Senior Pastor at Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Rock Island.

He has received many awards, accommodations, and recognitions. To name a few, he received the Prestigious Army Legion of Merit w/1OLC, and the Esteemed Army Bronze Star Metal.

Walton loved spending time with his wife and children. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Tena Jones; parents, Bishop Albert L. Carter, Sr.& Deborah Carter; Walter Jones and Doris Pinestraw, children, Elijah Jones, Alexis Jones, Daniel Jones, Kenya Alston, Walton Isaiah Jones II.
