Wayne was born on July 13, 1936 in Rock Island, Illinois, a son of Everett and Mildred Johnston Coyne. He was brought home to the farmhouse he lived in his entire life.
Wayne served in the U.S. Army Reserves from April of 1959 to October of 1965.
He married Cheryl Chard on November 22, 1959. They were married for sixty-three plus years.
Wayne was a life-time farmer. He was the 4th generation of farmers with the 5th and 6th generations currently farming the land and the 7th generation to arrive soon. Wayne was a member of the Rock Island County Farm Bureau, serving on the board of directors for eighteen years and received the Annual Good Neighbor Award in the early 1960's.
Wayne was a spiritual man and said he communicated with God everyday on the farm. He was a member of the Preemption United Methodist Church.
Some of Wayne's pastimes include bowling as a member of the Milan Business Men's League where he was honored to be inducted into the Rock Island County Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He also coached an ASA women's fast-pitch softball team and when they couldn't find a field to play on, he built a softball diamond in a corn field.
Wayne was a man who loved people and teased many throughout the years. He enjoyed traveling and took many trips with family across the United States and Canada. One of his most dedicated pastimes was his membership in the Liars Club at the Scamper Inn. He faithfully attended meetings at least once a day for fifty plus years.
Wayne's greatest joy was his family. He adored his grandchildren and was looking forward to meeting his expected great-grandson.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Cheryl Coyne, Milan; children, Connie (Chris) Coyne-Gowdy, Moline, Karri (Shawn Voisine) Coyne, Davenport and Curt (Denise) Coyne, Milan; grandchildren, Kelsey Coyne, Milan, Dayton (Nicole) Coyne, Rapids City, Tyler Gowdy, Moline; great-grandson, baby Coyne "Little Man" lovingly expected in August; and foreign exchange student from Sweden, Anne Lindell, Berlin Germany; and many in-laws and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenneth Coyne and sister-in-law, Marilyn.
The family wishes to thank Maggie and Kelli with Genesis Hospice for all of the wonderful care extended to Wayne and family.
