Wayne E. Stout, 83, of Illinois City, passed away Friday December 1, 2023 at home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11:30am Friday December 15, 2023 at Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church or retired firefighters of Rock Island. Wayne was born on February 18, 1940 in Rock Island, the son of Homer and Ruby Huntington Stout. He married Mary Edstrom on July 9, 1999 in Illinois. Wayne retired from the Rock Island Fire Department after 29 years of service in 1993 and was Rock Island Firefighter of the year in 1990. He was also the owner of Stout Plastering. Mr. Stout was a member of Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, where he served on the Pastor Parish Board, former Trustee Board Member, Member of the Methodist Men and cook for the church's steak dinners; he had also been a past president for 20 years of the Retired Firefighters of Rock Island, Trustee of Illinois Association of Retired Firefighter's and youth leader at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Wayne loved spending time with his family, working on his antique cars and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Mary Prester-Stout; children, Randy (Melinda) Stout, California, Ron Stout, Bettendorf, John Prester, Rock Island, Holly (Troy) Castens, Rock Island; grandchildren, Amanda (Tyler) Smith, Dalton (Brittany) Stout, Sydney Stout, Skylar Stout; great grandson, Holden Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ed Stout, Mary Scott, Ruth Humphrey, Imogene Williams and Yvonne Anderson. Online condolences may be left for the family at wheelanpressly.com.
