Wilbur M. Veroeven, 93, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Lake Barrington Woods Senior Living in Lake Barrington, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, at St Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery with military honors presented. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Arc of the Quad Cities Area.

Wilbur was born July 15, 1933, in East Moline, IL, the son of Mell and Mary (Viaene) Veroeven. Wilbur honorably served in the United States army from 1955 to 1957. He married Lois L. Dewaele on December 6, 1969.

Wilbur worked as a chemist for the Research and Development Rubber Laboratory at the Rock Island Arsenal. He then moved into the position of Operations Research Analyst for Cost Analysis ARRCOM retiring in 1988.

Wilbur was a member of St Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island. He had a passion for golf, completing three hole-in-ones and even making golf clubs as a hobby. Wilbur was a Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls fan as well as a Notre Dame fan. Wilbur enjoyed spending winters in Brownsville, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; son, Steve (Karen) Veroeven; grandchildren, Joshua and Zachary Veroeven; and step-grandchildren, Cassidy Burns and Donovan Burns. He was preceded in death by his parents.
