William B. Armstrong, 89, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.  Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan.  Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, where military honors will be conducted.  Memorials may be made in care of Trinity United Methodist Church, Milan.

Bill was born in Elmhurst, Ill. on January 9, 1928, a son of H. Wayne and Alma Kurtz Armstrong.  He married Marcella Hallas on August 22, 1948 at South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.  She preceded him in death on May 10, 2005.

Bill was a proud graduate of Rock Island High School and attended Western Illinois University.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corp.  He worked as a truck driver for Shell Oil Company for 35 years.

Bill was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Milan.  His favorite times included family gatherings and walking at Sunset Park.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children (and spouses), Katherine (Richard) Secor, Orion, William (Candy) Armstrong, Alamogordo, N.M., James (Linda) Armstrong, Andover, Linda Lindy, Rock Island and Becky (Larry) Reed, Milan; grandchildren, Richard (Brenda) Secor, Jeff and Jessica Armstrong, Erica (Gary) Greubel, Kara Sears, James (Ashley) Armstrong Jr., Dena Heath, Stacey (Ian) Happ, Jacob (Melinda) Lindy, Sarah (James) Dickerson and Emily Reed; 29 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Janet Armstrong, Burlington, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, grandson, Steven Secor and brother, Robert.
