William W. "Bill" Bartman, 79, of Rock Island, died suddenly on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island/Milan Education Foundation.
Bill was born July 14, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of William and Iva Walker Bartman. He married May Van Vooren Boquist on Aug. 20, 1978 in Moline.
He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1954, where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. Bill graduated from Western Illinois University Macomb and was a teacher and coach in the Rock Island Public Schools for many years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. Bill enjoyed bass fishing and was a member of the Twin Rivers Bass Club and Harvester Bass Club, both of Moline. He was also a member of the Rock Island Conservation Club. Bill loved all sports and especially enjoyed watching Rock Island sports.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Carla Bartman, Sand Springs, Ok.; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Brent Siemens, Oklahoma City, Ok.; stepsons, Kenneth Boquist, Rock Island and David (Beverly) Boquist, Crestview, Fla.; grandchildren; Taylor Bartman, and Cameron and Carson Siemens; step-grandchildren, Matthew Boquist and Terri Andrews; a step great- grandson, Logan Andrews; and his sister, Beverly (Bob) Alter, Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents.
