William Curtis Smith, 68, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the KNOX CHAPEL of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 2106 7th Avenue, Rock Island, Illinois. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Thursday at the KNOX CHAPEL. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.

William was born on August 5, 1957, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of William H. Smith and Marjorie (Pettie) Nicholson. He graduated from high school and proudly served in the U.S. Army.

William was known for his big personality, quick jokes, and the laughter he brought wherever he went. He loved making people smile and could always lighten the mood with his silly sense of humor and playful spirit. Whether he was teasing family members, telling funny stories, or simply being his goofy self, William enjoyed bringing joy to those around him. His laughter and warm presence will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

William had a love for driving and traveling, especially in his beloved Lincoln cars with his friend Mary. He enjoyed attending concerts, listening to jazz music, and spending time with family and friends. A devoted member of his church, William treasured his faith and found great happiness in being surrounded by the people he loved most. He especially enjoyed family gatherings, sharing laughs with his grandchildren, and creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Tannishia Sims; son, William Smith; grandchildren, Telis Garcia, Raquel Garcia, Selina Garcia, Kierra Smith, Kheana Smith, Jahmeir Smith, Willow Smith, and Wintyr Smith; great-grandchildren, Mahari Horton, Nimah Jones, Nalani Rotibi, Victor Jones III, and Kisaiya Auston; siblings, Gregory Smith, Gloria (Mark) Meadows, and Gerry (Lynette) Nicholson, special friend, Mary Bursey, and a host of nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his father, William H. Smith; mother, Marjorie Nicholson; stepfather, Allen Nicholson; grandson, Curtis Smith; great-grandchild, Mikko Horton; and sisters, Valerie Carr, Sonya Smith, and Yvonne “Bonnie” Nicholson.

William will be remembered for his loving heart, strong faith, unforgettable humor, and the many laughs and memories he shared with family and friends. His love and laughter will continue to live on in all who knew him.
