Milan - William "Bill" John Nelson, 70, of Milan, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 24, 2024.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held this summer at his home. His ashes will be scattered by his lifelong friend, John DeCapp, at Bill's favorite hiking and camping spot.

Bill was born on March 25, 1954, in Moline, IL, to Larry and Kay Nelson. He graduated from United Township High School and retired from John Deere in 2006 after 30 years.

On May 7, 1994, he married Kitty, who survives him. Also surviving are his father, Larry; sister, Dee; Uncle Jack; daughter, Nichole (Nick); stepsons, Ricky (Maureen) and Rod (Denise); 17 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Austin, Delaney, Clare, Emily, Jake, Alli, Aubrey, Gabby, Harper, Will, Nicky, Sophia, Oliver, Thea, Ezra, Evie, and Ronan.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kay; grandmother, Nano; grandfather, Boppa; Aunt Nancy; and Uncle Bob Depoorter.

Bill, lovingly known as Billy, Dad, and Boppa, was a lifelong Quad Cities resident. He had a passion for the outdoors, music, books, and movies - especially classics, Westerns, and sci-fi. An avid learner, he also enjoyed motorcycles and was a gun enthusiast.

Above all, Bill was an exceptional father and family man. His calming voice, patience, wit, infectious laughter, and boundless creativity will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. His devotion to family was unparalleled, always putting their needs before his own.

Bill touched the lives of all who knew him with his kindness, warmth, and unwavering love. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
