William H. Long, 80, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday June 27, 2018 at home.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 30th at Fifteenth Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island. Entombment will be at Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 29th at the Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 2106 7 th Avenue, Rock Island. The family requests no flowers due to allergies, memorials may be made to the family to be designated later.
William was born August 16, 1937 in Bureau, Illinois, a son of Raymond and Bernice Streed Long. He married Shirley J. Canute on November 9, 1957 in Rock Island.
He was employed at Reynolds Manufacturing for 10 years. He then worked at Quad City Engineering, Rock Island, until his retirement in 2005. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
William was an active member of Fifteenth Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island, where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and fast pitch girls' softball.
His favorite times were spent with family and at church activities. He will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley, of Rock Island; children (and spouses), Terry (Joel) Ambrozi, Moline, Anthony "Tony" Long, Rock Island, and Tammy (Ron) Mutka, Milan; grandchildren, Tara (Michael) Kapple, Kyle (Chelsea) Ambrozi, Taylor Ambrozi, Daniel Long, Steven Long, Nikki Hinerichsen, Jessica Long, Destine Ellis, Daltin Hartman, Meaghan (Justin) Collins, Eric (Sarah) Mutka; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Don (Donna) Long, Rock Island and Raymond Long, San Antonio, Tex.; numerous nieces, nephews, and additional family; and close family friends, Aran and Jeff Reddig, and their daughter, Jena.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth and Robert Long; and sisters, Betty Cutler and Ruth Long Allen.
