Willie Hughes Jenkins passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9th, 2024 at the age of 69.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Weelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.
Willie was born March 7th, 1954, to mother Maurica "Reecie" Payton Jenkins Smith and father Charlie Jennings in Meridian, MS.
Willie graduated from Central High School in Davenport, IA in 1973. He went on to work many years as a Janitor at Krisdala Baka Rest Area in Lyn Center, IL. Willie received many awards of excellence for his outstanding work and dedication.
Willie was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Jennings; mother, Maurica 'Reecie" Payton Jenkins Smith; step fathers, Lattimore Jenkins and Lawrence Smith; step mother, Muzella Brown Jennings; one sister, Ruthie Mae Jennings Rush; two brothers, Robert Moore, Jr. and Earcell Jennings; paternal grandparents, Gus Jennings and Sallie Cole Jennings Rush; and maternal grandparents, Sam Payton and Ada B. Kirk Payton.
He is survived by several siblings – four brothers, Morris Jenkins of Davenport, IA; Charles Jennings (Tasha) of Friendswood, TX; Ronnie Jennings of DeKalb, MS; and Danny Jennings (Athena) of Maryland; three sisters, Sharon Jennings Thomas (Randy) of Meridian, MS; Myra Jennings Hibbler (Vince) and Necole Jennings McCoy (Stanford), both of DeKalb, MS; uncle, Mike Rush of DeKalb, MS; aunt, Rosie Rush of Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
