Wilma Sue Rochelle, 83, of Andalusia, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2024, at her sister's home. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Sue's legacy of kindness and generosity touched all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, Illinois. A funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a memorial fund to be established by the family.
Sue was born on September 21, 1941, in Hazen, Arkansas, to Elwood and Sally (Long) Wheatley. She married the love of her life, James "Sonny" Rochelle, on May 28, 1960. Together, they built a life filled with love and family until Sonny's passing on August 4, 2004.
Sue was a beautician for many years before joining the Eagles warehouse in Milan, Illinois, where she rose to the role of supervisor. She retired in 2000 after a long and dedicated career.
She is survived by her daughter, Shavonna (Marlin) McManus of Lynn Center, IL; her son-in-law, Michael McNair of Rock Island, IL; her grandchildren, Adam (Vanessa) McNair of Matherville, IL, Colton McManus of Viola, IL, Caleb McManus of Lynn Center, IL, Devin Rochelle of Matherville, IL, and Jazzmin Rochelle of Matherville, IL; and her great-grandchildren, Ethan, John, Gavin, and Willow. She is also survived by her siblings, Shirley Moore of Little Rock, AR, Earnie McWhorter of Benton, AR, Glenda McCannon and Sandra Ruiz, both of Andalusia, IL, and Thomas Wheatley of Rock Island, IL.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sonny; her daughter, Vonda McNair; her son, Chad Rochelle; four sisters; and four brothers.
Sue's family and friends will always remember her compassion, generosity, and unfailing dedication to those she loved. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Condolence may be shared with the family on the Tribute Wall.
