Zachary S. Schmacht, 34, of Madison, Ala., formerly of Osco, Ill., died Feb. 11, 2017 in Madison.
Funeral services will be Noon on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 2106 7 Ave., Rock Island. Burial with military honors will be at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 10 am until service time Wednesday. Memorials may be given for the benefit of his children.
Zachary Shawn Schmacht was born May 23, 1982 in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Dan and Lori Roach Schmacht. He married Carrie M. Hancock.
He graduated from Orion High School in 2000, where he played football and was a member of the band. Zachary joined the US Army and served a tour of duty in Korea and three tours in Iraq. He was a crew chief on a Black Hawk helicopter doing medevac in support of our troops. He received numerous decorations, medals and campaign ribbons. Zachary was currently a production control assistant for Yulista Aviation, which is located at the Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala.
He was a die-hard Chicago Bears and Blackhawks fan.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie; sons, Noah and Samuel Schmacht and daughter, Emma Schmacht, all of Madison; his parents, Dan and Lori Schmacht, Osco; brothers Zeb and Zane Schmacht, Osco; his grandfather, Carl Schmacht, Osco; and a host of aunts, uncles, and other relatives.
